About Maura Allen
Artist Statement
I work on wood, creating, scraping, and carving layers for depth.
Incorporating images from my own photographs, I combine the
simplicity of black and white photography with the complexity and
layering of painting.
Using serigraph (silkscreen) printing and
other techniques, I create
mixed media paintings that incorporate the grain and texture of the
wood panel and found objects.
Each day moments and places provide my
starting point. My interest is
to capture the feeling of a place via a mix of images, colors, patterns,
and texture. People going about their work or relaxing, doorways and
walls, old store signs, even traffic are what I photograph most often.
